Research on Natural Folate

Natural folate is a form of vitamin B9 found in some foods. It is an important ingredient for the proper functioning of the body because it is involved in the creation of new cells, including red blood cells.

NATURAL FOLATE

Folic acid is recommended as a key dietary supplement for pregnant women. It plays an important role in proper fetal development and is also an invaluable supporter of our brain and immune system function.

385 fruits ripening on Soil Association certified farms are necessary to obtain 1 kg of folate. The impact and function of folate are under constant and strict control of medical laboratory technicians and microbiologists to ensure its use as a dietary supplement is always safe and beneficial for our bodies.

Folates are susceptible to oxidation, rapidly losing their activity in food, and are largely, up to 90%, destroyed through cooking.

Folic acid obtained from food needs to be metabolized into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) to achieve its full metabolic effectiveness.

The majority of folate intake comes from the synthetic version of folic acid in supplements and added to food.

Today, we know that folic acid undergoes complex metabolism and that there are differences among populations in their ability to effectively metabolize folic acid into its bioactive form.

Advantage of folates

They do not require conversion in the body, making them a solution for individuals with impaired conversion mechanisms.

There is a genetic defect that causes a decrease in the activity of the MTHFR enzyme, which is involved in the conversion of folic acid into its active form.

This mutation is likely present in 50% of the population.

In practice, this means that in 40% of us, this enzyme is 75% active, while in 10% it is around 35%. If a pregnant woman is in this 10% group, standard preventive doses of folic acid may be insufficient to mitigate the risk of birth defects and other consequences of this disorder.

In humans, the intestine appears to have very high abilities to convert reduced folates from food into 5-MTHF, but limited capacity to reduce folic acid. In fact, folic acid reaches the liver in an unmetabolized form.

A new study published in 2014 clearly demonstrated that 86% of folic acid in the hepatic portal vein is unmetabolized, while nearly all of the natural folate was properly converted.

  • The only preparation with two fractions ensuring high efficacy of the product.
  • Natural folate - for individuals with normal folate metabolism.
  • 5-methyltetrahydrofolate - an active form that does not require metabolism, effective for individuals with both normal and impaired metabolism.
  • Naturally sourced from lemon peels.
  • Standardization to a minimum active substance content.
  • Vegan capsule.
  • Source of natural folate standardized to 5% content.

Unique source of two forms of folate:

  • Natural folate - highly bioavailable and well-metabolized by healthy individuals.
  • 5-methyltetrahydrofolate - an active form well-absorbed by both healthy individuals and those with absorption issues.

UP TO 400 μg IN 1 CAPSULE.
